Can stress actually cause gum disease?

Today I'm joined by Dr. Rana Al-Rasheed, an integrative dentist, UCLA School of Dentistry professor, and founder of Heal the Healer, a program for burned-out healthcare professionals.

Before she built that program, she needed it herself. Rana looked healthy on paper: happy marriage, healthy kids, a career she'd worked hard for. Then her own body sent her a wake-up call she couldn't ignore, and she realized she wasn't sick, but she wasn't healthy either.

It's a feeling a lot of physician moms know well – and your mouth may be the first place it shows up. What do your gums have to do with your heart, your brain, even diabetes? And what's the smallest habit that could turn it around?

If you've ever felt like you're pouring from an empty cup, this one's for you.
